Many forms, marketplaces and email services allow up to 500 KB per image, but phone photos are usually several MB. PixelPilot tries quality levels until the file fits under 500 KB, then keeps the best one. If quality alone can’t get there, it also scales the picture down a little, so you always get a file you can upload.

Everything happens on your device, which matters for ID photos, signatures and documents: they are never sent to a server.

How to use it

  1. Add one or more images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP).
  2. Each is compressed to under 500 KB automatically.
  3. Check the before and after, and change the target if the form asks for something else.
  4. Download the file, or all of them as a ZIP.

Formats and limits

Opens
JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), AVIF where your browser decodes it, BMP
Saves
JPEG, PNG (lossless or reduced palette), WebP, and AVIF only if your browser can encode it
  • PixelPilot uses your browser’s own encoders, which are good but not as tuned as tools like MozJPEG. Results vary by browser.
  • Metadata such as EXIF camera data and location is not copied into the output.
  • Animated GIF, WebP and PNG become still images.
  • Images over 40 MB or 50 megapixels are refused on the free plan to protect your browser’s memory.

Compress image to 500 KB questions

  • Only as much as needed. PixelPilot keeps the highest quality that fits. Big photos may also be made a little smaller in pixels, which looks better than heavy compression at full size.
